EnBW: Swabian fast-charging network also grows in Bavaria
The Baden-Württemberg energy supplier EnBW is also gradually expanding the fast charging network in neighboring Bavaria. Now, in addition to the existing ones in Wörth and Unterhaching, the major charging locations Memmingen and Erlangen have also come online with HPC charging points. The number of newly registered electric cars in Bavaria has almost doubled since the beginning of last year. In 2021, around 45,500 electric cars were registered, corresponding to an increase of 136 percent (January to September). The company states that they also want to ensure the provision of fast-charging infrastructure on highways in Bavaria.
In Erlangen, the location went online directly at the A3 autobahn, and a few days later, the charging park at the A96 near Erkheim also commenced operations. In Erlangen, electric car drivers have twenty fast charging points with a power of 300 kilowatts at their disposal. In Erkheim, e-mobilists find eight fast charging points with the same power. Vehicles charge there, depending on their receiving capacity, for a 20-minute charge stop providing electricity for 400 kilometers of range. Both charging parks are also covered and equipped with a photovoltaic system, the provider continues to advertise. The larger photovoltaic system in Erlangen can generate up to 37 kilowatts of power and directly supplies the charging park with sustainable energy. As at all EnBW locations, 100 percent green electricity flows in Erlangen and Erkheim.
"Both locations are situated on important long-distance traffic arteries in Bavaria, on the A3 in the north of the state and the A96 in the south. This way, we achieve the widest possible coverage," explains Timo Sillober, EnBW Chief Sales and Operations Officer, responsible for the electromobility sector.
The company had already brought a charging park online on the A3 in Wörth an der Donau in September, shortly after opening their large fast-charging park in Unterhaching near Munich. In mid-December, EnBW opened their largest fast-charging park at Kamener Kreuz. Further major locations, such as those near Petersberg and Zwickau, are about to go into operation.
"These are nodal points within our fast-charging network and visible milestones of the drive transition for us, which can also cover the increasing demand for charging electricity on long-distance routes," Sillober continues to advertise.
Currently, the energy company operates over 650 public fast-charging stations across Germany and sees itself as the market leader. In addition, they are increasingly focusing on equipping retailers and inner-city locations. Only recently, the company announced a collaboration with the REWE Group and is equipping hundreds of REWE and Penny markets with fast-charging infrastructure in the coming months. In recent months, the company had already equipped numerous markets of well-known retailers, such as BAUHAUS, or retail parks of the property manager DEFAMA with fast-charging infrastructure.
