EnBW opens fourth BW fast charging park with solar roof in Öhringen
The Baden-Württemberg energy supplier EnBW has put another fast-charging location for electric cars into operation in Öhringen, about 25 kilometers east of Heilbronn. It was inaugurated by representatives from politics and EnBW. It is located near the A6 motorway and is the fourth EnBW fast-charging park with a solar roof in Baden-Württemberg after Rutesheim, Weinsberg, and Stuttgart. The location is equipped with 16 HPC (High Power Charging) points, which EnBW can double to 32 if needed.
Pre-built: Up to 400 kW power
These high-performance fast-charging points enable charging with up to 400 kilowatts. Depending on the vehicle's capacity, drivers can charge up to 400 kilometers of range during a 15-minute charging stop in Öhringen. This already prepares for the future, as there are currently no vehicles that can charge at such high power levels, the provider notes. Travelers in Baden-Württemberg can thus drive to France or the Czech Republic without further rest. Opposite the EnBW fast-charging park, they will also find a dining option. The solar energy obtained from the solar roof flows directly into the charging park's circuit. EnBW operates all its fast-charging parks with 100 percent green electricity.
"As a leading charging infrastructure company, we are expanding our fast-charging network comprehensively and according to demand. In addition to large charging parks along the long-distance traffic network, such as in Öhringen, we focus on expansion in retail and urban areas. This way, we are gradually densifying our EnBW HyperNetz in Germany. This year, we aim to achieve coverage of EnBW fast-charging locations of around 98 percent within a radius of 50 kilometers," announced Jürgen Stein, who, as Chief Innovation & New Business Officer at EnBW, also oversees the e-mobility sector.
MdL Arnulf Freiherr von Eyb believes that only if the drivers of electric cars can trust that they can rely on a reliable infrastructure throughout Germany, which enables them to charge their vehicles quickly even on the go, will e-mobility be able to establish itself widely.
“Fast charging for e-cars is particularly an important factor for more sustainable mobility in rural areas. And especially the charging infrastructure is a major factor for the mobility transition. The denser the charging network is, the more it expands the possibilities for people in the district,” says Ian Schölzel, District Administrator of the Hohenlohekreis.
“Öhringen has everything a city should offer for e-cars,” finds Thilo Michler, Mayor of the city of Öhringen. The range extends from the standard charging point in the city to various fast chargers at retail and gas stations to the modern EnBW fast charging park with charging points of the highest performance class, the mayor enthuses.
In Öhringen too, EnBW cooperates with various partners from different industries and equips their parking lots with fast charging infrastructure. This way, drivers can conveniently integrate charging into their daily routine even without their own home wallbox, as further promoted. The energy company plans to operate around 30,000 fast charging points nationwide by 2030. For this, the corporation invests around 200 million euros annually. Currently, EnBW operates the largest fast charging network nationwide with over 5,000 fast charging points.
