EnBW: New Fast Charging Park in Tornesch
The energy provider from Baden-Württemberg, EnBW, has commissioned another fast-charging station, thereby expanding the European HyperNetwork for drivers. The new location in Tornesch, a few kilometers north of Hamburg, is optimally situated for travelers to the North Sea with its direct connection to the A23. It features eight HPC (High Power Charging) points of the highest performance class. During a 20-minute charging stop, drivers can load up to 400 kilometers of range depending on the vehicle configuration. This equates to a journey as far as Berlin, Leipzig, or Groningen in the neighboring Netherlands. The photovoltaic roof of the EnBW fast-charging station contributes to the site's energy supply. For the additional energy needed on-site, as in all charging locations, 100 percent green electricity is used. Tornesch is already the 22nd large fast-charging park with a solar roof by EnBW nationwide.
"Electromobility is a central component of the mobility transition and one of our strategic priorities for a sustainable energy future. For this, we invest significantly more than 100 million euros each year. This way, we are driving the further expansion of the public fast-charging infrastructure in the country with great urgency," explained EnBW board member Colette Rückert-Hennen.
To supply the predicted number of registered electric cars on German roads with public charging infrastructure by 2030, a total of 130,000 to 150,000 fast-charging points will be needed according to EnBW. The company from Baden-Württemberg alone plans to provide 30,000 of these. Thanks to technological advancements, significantly more cars can be charged in a much shorter time at a fast-charging site than just a few years ago, promoting the technology.
"The frequently cited figure of one million charging points by 2030 is based on long-outdated assumptions," the energy provider clarifies.
Currently, EnBW operates by far the largest fast-charging network in Germany with more than 800 locations. In the first half of this year, it will commission its 1,000th EnBW fast-charging location.
