EnBW builds three more fast-charging parks in Brandenburg and Lower Saxony
Construction start for three new fast-charging parks: The energy company EnBW has begun work on covered charging locations in Wollin, Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf (both in Brandenburg), and Emstek/Cloppenburg (Lower Saxony). All of these are expected to be operational in the first half of 2024.
With Solar Roof
As the operator of Germany's largest fast-charging network, EnBW is thus building its first two fast-charging parks with solar roofs in Brandenburg. The Wollin location is roughly halfway between Magdeburg and Berlin on the A2, and Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf is about 20 km east of the capital on the A10. In Lower Saxony, EnBW is increasing its fast-charging infrastructure in Emstek/Cloppenburg between Oldenburg and Osnabrück on the A1.
Charging with up to 400 kW
The new locations for ultra-fast charging in the EnBW HyperNetz feature High-Power-Charging (HPC) points of the highest performance class: This enables charging with up to 400 kW. With a 15-minute charging stop, electric cars can load up to 400 km of fresh range. This way, EnBW is already preparing these locations for the future. Currently, there are no vehicles that can charge at such high power levels.
With Gastronomic Offers
In Wollin, the energy company is installing 16 HPC charging points. EnBW can quickly increase the capacity there to 22 fast charging points if demand grows. In Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf, it is providing drivers with eight fast charging points. At both locations, customers will find gastronomic offers in the immediate vicinity. In Emstek/Cloppenburg, 28 forward-looking fast charging points are being built.
As with all company-owned charging locations, EnBW will also operate the new charging parks with 100% green electricity. Additionally, it will equip the new fast charging parks with large solar roofs. These roofs feed green energy into the local grids and provide customers with protection from wind and weather.
EnBW Continues Massive Expansion of Fast Charging Network
“Last year, we commissioned more than one new fast charging location per working day. We will maintain this expansion pace in 2024,” says EnBW Chief Innovation & New Business Officer Jürgen Stein, who is responsible for the e-mobility sector.
With more than 4,200 charging points, EnBW operates by far the largest fast charging network in Germany. By 2030, it aims to expand this number to about 30,000 simultaneously usable fast charging points. For this purpose, the company increased its investments in this area around half a year ago from more than 100 to around 200 million euros per year. A total of 130,000 to 150,000 fast charging points will be needed for the e-cars registered in Germany by the beginning of the next decade.
