ElectriCity: Where Renault is Powered Up

The company is combining its three plants in northern France into a network that is intended to be the nucleus for further settlements of suppliers. As early as 2025, an in-house battery production facility is set to begin operations on the site. We were able to visit the production facilities in Douai.

Nothing less than "the largest and most competitive production center for electric vehicles in Europe" is what Renault plans to establish there. Currently, the production of the new Megane E-tech is starting. Also rolling off the production line are the Scienic, the Espace, and by the end of the month, the ill-fated Talisman.

"I am very proud to have contributed to the creation of Renault ElectriCity, a symbol of Renault's know-how and technological innovation, and to increasing the economic and social attractiveness of Hauts-de-France in Europe," says Luciano Biondo, Director of Renault ElectriCity.

He has great plans: In 2024, exactly 50 years after the production of the original R 5 began, the electric R 5 will be the next new model to roll off the production line in Douai. In total, up to 400,000 pure electric vehicles are to be manufactured in the new factory facilities in the future.
