EasyMile opens research hub at Tegel Airport
The specialist for autonomous shuttle systems and software, EasyMile, has announced the opening of an R&D hub on the site of the former Berlin Tegel Airport. In the approximately 200-hectare research and industrial park for urban technologies, known as Urban Tech Republic, the company will establish a research and development department as well as a department for the preparation and maintenance of autonomous vehicles. Currently, the provider is testing the market maturity of its technology in real-world applications through various projects with different vehicle platforms and is represented in Germany with around 30 vehicles for passenger transport. Additionally, current development priorities are being addressed within the framework of research projects, including the further development of the all-weather capability of autonomous vehicles.
55 Million Euro Funding Round Successfully Completed
According to the company, last year it successfully completed a Series B funding round of 55 million euros. The funding was aimed at facilitating the completion of EasyMile's product and technology roadmap while accelerating international expansion and customer service. The French-origin company has been based in Germany since 2017 and has been recording strong growth annually. Now, it is expanding not only its team in Berlin but also its facilities and intends to advance research and development activities here. The goal is to be able to offer efficient and fast customer service to the "existing operational business."
“The focus of the Urban Tech Republic is on technologies for the growing metropolises of the 21st century. Intelligent and clean mobility solutions play a central role in this, conceived, developed, tested, and produced here in the research and industrial park at the former Tegel Airport. As a manufacturer of electric and automated transport solutions, EasyMile fits perfectly with the innovation-driven profile of the Urban Tech Republic. We are therefore pleased to welcome EasyMile as one of our first tenants,” said Gudrun Sack, Managing Director of Tegel Projekt GmbH.
