Earth Hour: The Saxon VW plants turn off the lights
Lights off for the environment and as a symbol of peace: On Saturday, March 26th, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, it will go dark at the Saxon locations. Zwickau is participating with its vehicle plant and customer service center. The Chemnitz engine plant and the Gläserne Manufaktur will also take part. The occasion is Earth Hour, which was launched by the environmental protection organization WWF in 2007 and has since taken place every year on the last Saturday in March. During the "Hour of the Earth," people, cities, and companies from around the world make a statement for climate protection and our living planet by turning off the lights for one hour in their homes or at monuments and official buildings.
This year, Earth Hour is also intended to send a joint signal for peace in Ukraine, in Europe, and around the world. Alexander Horn, Environmental and Energy Management Officer at Volkswagen Saxony explains:
“We are pioneers in electromobility within the company. We not only build locally emission-free vehicles and efficient engines, but we also continuously improve our processes in terms of environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. Whether it's bees, green electricity, e-trucks, or green battery logistics - we've already achieved a lot and have already set new, ambitious goals. Earth Hour is a symbolic statement that we are happy to participate in.”
Positive side effect: VW additionally saves electricity and subtly shows its colors.
What does that mean?
By now, the lights go out not only during Earth Hour but at several places across the world. Darkness can be frightening, but it can also be an opportunity to pause and reflect — to think in peace about what really matters in life! So: Turn off the lights and enjoy the darkness, peace, and time!
