E-trucks in long-distance transport: DAF supports project in the UK

The British government and Innovate UK - a public body not affiliated with any department that supports innovative initiatives - aim to promote zero-emission transport solutions for long-haul transport with battery-electric trucks. As part of the five-year practical test, the development of an appropriate public charging infrastructure will also be supported. The initiative is funded by the British government and carried out in partnership with Innovate UK.

DAF is also involved in the program. According to the Dutch truck manufacturer, the two electric models XD Electric and XF Electric are integrated. The tractor units are used by large operators.

The program, which is intended to demonstrate in practice how zero-emission heavy-duty transport and a zero-emission infrastructure can work, follows the recent practical test with battery-powered trucks, according to the truck manufacturer. Twenty DAF LF Electric trucks for urban distribution participated in this test. These were used by public institutions such as the National Health Service (NHS) and local authorities.
