E-Truck as Heavy Transporter: Boliden Orders 74-Tonner from Scania

By operating the electric truck, the mining and metal company aims to reduce its total CO2 emissions by 40 percent by 2030, reports the Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania. The 74-ton fully loaded electrified truck, driven by the transport company Renfors Åkeri AB, is expected to be used in the future on a total route of 30 kilometers on public roads for a Boliden mine in northern Sweden for the transport of ores.

Electrification of heavy transport for the environment

Once again, it has been demonstrated, says Head of E-Mobility at Scania Fredrik Allard, that fully electric solutions for heavy vehicles are technically feasible. However, with rapid development, the corresponding infrastructure must absolutely keep pace to enable more customers to take this step. The involvement of other companies like Boliden in the heavy-duty sector, which want to advance developments here, is also important not least for the environment.

Working early on an electrified solution for heavy trucks and thus promoting the development and transition to sustainable solutions is entirely in line with the company’s philosophy, adds Boliden Program Director Jonas Ranggård.
