e.GO Life: Battery Swap Station and Handicap Version
Next.e.GO Mobile SE from Aachen has announced the introduction of an intelligent battery swapping solution. Drivers who need to be on the road longer than usual can use the feature integrated into their e.GO Life to swap the nearly empty battery for a fully charged one at a designated e.GO battery swap station, the so-called e.Pit. On the way back or at a later time, but at the latest within a month, the customer should pick up their original battery – fully charged – at the same station, according to the idea. Customers would then remain the owners of their original battery and keep track of their battery ID at all times via the e.GO app. The service is provided free of charge to all customers within their annual swap quota.
Half-hour swap time as a goal
The swapping process takes about 60 minutes and is therefore faster than a full charge at a conventional public charging station. Efforts are being made to further reduce the duration of the swap process, with a target duration of just under 30 minutes. According to the manufacturer, the first two swap stations at the Aachen plant and in Zülpich (Pardemann service partner) have been fully operational since November. The next stations are coming to Düsseldorf and Hamburg, with more planned.
The battery swap is not just a new feature or another business line, but a feature in line with the manufacturer's commitment to sustainability. The battery swapping solution offers the corresponding convenience for this, explains Ali Vezvaei, Chairman of the Board of Next.e.GO Mobile SE.
Ideal Combination: Microcar with Wheelchair Accessibility
Additionally, the Aachen-based company, in collaboration with Automobile Sodermanns in Wassenberg (NRW), has introduced the first modified e.GO Life for people with disabilities. It includes 20 different modifications for testing and test driving, such as a fully automatic wheelchair loading system or a foldable transfer aid for easier boarding and loading of a wheelchair, as well as various driving aids, such as left-foot accelerator, a multifunction steering wheel knob, a hand control device for accelerator and brake, a swivel and rotating seat for the passenger side, a camera system for side and rear view with restricted neck rotation, orthopedic car seats, additional grab handles for getting in and out, and many more. Furthermore, if needed, Paravan's innovative Space-Drive technology, a renowned retrofitting specialist and license partner of Sodermanns Automobile, can also be installed.
Drive-by-Wire Simplifies Conversion
The electronic steering and braking system eliminates the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the steering gear, with impulses transmitted electronically. The Drive-By-Wire system, also used in motorsports and automated industries, enables mobility suitable for people with disabilities and benefits those with lower muscle strength and severe motor impairments. Very little muscle strength is required to drive the vehicle safely and independently.
"In recent years, the number of inquiries regarding the conversion of electric vehicles has continuously increased. This also applies to small electric city cars like the e.GO Life. Due to the special construction of electric cars, there are, of course, challenges during the conversion. These primarily concern the battery, space, weight, and integration into the vehicle's electronics," explains Frank Sodermanns, Managing Director and Founder of Automobile Sodermanns.
This provides people with disabilities a completely new category of mobility, with sustainable, robust, and modern vehicle concepts that are optimally suited for urban use due to their size and features, adds Matthias Kreimeier, Sales Director of Next.e.GO Mobile SE. A vehicle of this size equipped with a robotic arm is unique.
Order from e.GO, Conversion at Sodermanns
Sodermanns Automobile in Wassenberg specializes in converting vehicles to be disability-friendly. The e.GO Life can be ordered directly from e.GO Mobile or from one of their nationwide sales partners; the conversion is then carried out at Sodermanns in Wassenberg. The vehicle is also registered there and inspected by the TÜV in the form of an individual approval. Additionally, the converter offers a nationwide pick-up and delivery service, with which the vehicle can be delivered directly to the customer’s home or another location. The costs for the vehicle conversion can be up to 100 percent subsidized, for example through the so-called motor vehicle aid, with Sodermanns offering consultation on this.
