E-GAP: Mobile Charging Service for Taxi Drivers in Munich
With six mobile charging stations in electrically powered vans of the Fiat E-Scudo type, the first location of the Italian company E-GAP Germany GmbH was opened in Munich in July 2023. The stations can be booked via an app or online for a specific time window. Charging also takes place when the vehicle owner is not present, the company writes.
E-GAP charges vehicles with up to 80 kW of charging power according to its homepage. The company does not charge plug-in hybrids and transporters. Payment is made via the credit card stored in the app or the payment service provider PayPal. The mobile charging service will soon be available in Hamburg, Berlin, and Frankfurt am Main. The service fee amount and the cost of the charging power are not disclosed on the homepage.
To start, E-GAP has entered into a cooperation with Munich's taxi center IsarFunk. Electric taxis from companies affiliated with the center can use the mobile power supply at a discounted rate. The first charge of 20 kWh is free. Until the end of July, the service charge, which is otherwise levied, is waived for all further orders. Only the regular electricity price will be charged.
On the occasion of the new cooperation, IsarFunk announced that from now on, only "future taxis" would be added to the fleet. This term, previously only used in Hamburg, refers to taxis with battery-electric drives or those with a fuel cell drive, which also operates with electric motors. Additionally, IsarFunk means vehicles "with inclusion equipment" for the transportation of passengers who need to sit in a wheelchair. As soon as this is technically and economically feasible, the center plans to fully switch to electric taxis in the future.
The second taxi center in Munich, founded in 1988 alongside Taxi München eG, introduced what it claims to be Germany's first electric taxi in the summer of 2011. It confidently describes its fleet as "Munich's most environmentally friendly fleet."
