On November 15, 2021, the Förderkreis der Deutschen Verkehrswissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft e.V. (DVWG) plans to award the "Innovation Prize of the German Mobility Industry" for the first time during the German Mobility Congress at the St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt. According to DVWG, companies from the transport and mobility industry, as well as related sectors, can still apply for it until July 31, 2021.

As can be read on the homepage innovationspreis-mobilitaet.de, the competition is divided into three categories. Only for the first category, products and projects, can one apply themselves through an online form. This category focuses on "new and innovative products or projects that significantly advance the mobility economy and are already very successful in the market." Examples also include "mobility concepts for city centers," which may appeal to taxi and rental car as well as bus companies. Applications can only be submitted online through a short application form, which allows for document uploads.

The awards in the other two categories, personality and special prize, are apparently chosen by the expert jury, which also decides on the submissions for the first category. One cannot actively apply for these two categories.

The twelve-member jury includes scientists, association representatives, and DVWG President Prof. Dr. Jan Ninnemann, as well as the well-known TV news personality Prof. Dr. Claudia Kemfert, head of the energy, transport, and environment department at the German Institute for Economic Research DIW. The Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure has taken on the patronage.

DVWG has pointed out the extension of the application deadline for the second time. This indicates that few applications have been received so far.
