Lowered and simultaneously battery-electric – these are the main characteristics of a new generation of emission-free tractors that the logistics company Duvenbeck has added to its fleet. Bernd Reining, Fleet Manager at Duvenbeck:

“With the deployment of the battery-electric driven E-tractor, we are taking another step towards electrifying our fleet. As a logistics partner for the automotive industry, we will support the transformation of our customers to e-mobility in the future with even more offerings for electric, environmentally friendly goods mobility.”

Low-deck tractor

The vehicle is a so-called low-deck tractor. "Low deck" means that the truck can only pull trailers with an interior loading height of three meters in a lowered position. According to Duvenbeck, these trailers, known as mega trailers, are particularly efficient and suitable for use in the automotive industry due to their loading height, as they allow for optimal space utilization. The low-deck tractor is based on the MID CAB type from Volvo's FM series and has been electrified by Volvo's subsidiary Designwerk Technologies, based in Switzerland.

According to their own statements, the vehicle is used by Duvenbeck for shuttle services for selected customers from the automotive industry, for example between Herne and Ghent. In the battery-electric driven variant, it is the first low-deck tractor unit that the company operates in long-distance traffic in Germany. Robert Frehen, Chief of Staff at Duvenbeck:

“The new low-deck e-truck has already successfully proven its suitability for long-distance transport in the past weeks. A battery charge of 340 kilowatt hours allows for a range of up to 275 kilometers – fully loaded. In combination with an appropriate charging infrastructure, this e-truck is a market-ready contribution to the sustainable reduction of climate-damaging emissions in our customers' transport network.”
