Since the beginning of 2023, the mobile fast chargers for commercial vehicles from Designwerk Technologies have also been available in Sweden. The provider of mobility solutions for electric commercial vehicles from Winterthur has secured the support of its new Swedish distribution partner, Svensk Fordonsladdning from Rättvik. With this business expansion, the company is responding to the "increasing demand for emission-free drive technologies," says Designwerk CEO Adrian Melliger.

“E-mobility is of central importance for the energy transition and achieving climate targets. Sweden is taking a pioneering role in this,” reports Designwerk in its press release. Both partners, and ultimately the customers, would therefore benefit from the distribution partnership. In a kind of win-win situation, Designwerk would strengthen its market position in Europe, while Svensk Fordonsladdning could expand its range of charging solutions and offer mobile versions in addition to the previously only stationary ones.

Rapid Developments, Increased Demand

In Sweden, electromobility has picked up pace significantly, justifying Designwerk's involvement in the Nordic country. As a result, requirements for charging infrastructure have also increased there. Due to the close collaboration with Designwerk, Robert Nilsson, Chairman of Svensk Fordonsladding, said they are now able to expand their portfolio to include "a world-leading product in this area" that is generating great interest:

"We already see high demand for Designwerk's quality products, especially their mobile DC chargers."

Mobile Solutions for Commercial Vehicles

The official Swedish distributor is one of the leading providers of complete solutions for fast DC charging systems, serving companies and municipalities with various stationary charging solutions. When expanding its portfolio, they pay particular attention to the high quality of the products, which should also be "sustainable in the long run," says Nilsson. So far, the company has only distributed stationary chargers, but with Designwerk's solutions, the range will be expanded to include mobile versions that can be used exactly where customers need them: "Directly at the commercial vehicle."

Up to 88 kW, up to 1,000 Volts

The manufacturer's mobile fast chargers are available in various sizes and can, according to product specifications, charge up to 150 kilometers per hour in the "smallest" version and up to 600 kilometers per hour in the largest. The power range extends from 22 to 88 kilowatts and "up to 1,000 volts." This guarantees fast and stable charging cycles. Switching between different charging standards, according to the specifications, is made particularly easy thanks to the integrated cable switching system.

Maintenance and repairs are currently handled by the service center at Designwerk's German location in Lottstetten, Baden, south of Schaffhausen; however, a corresponding offering in Sweden is planned for the future or mid-term.

Additionally, they plan to offer the huge charging station "Mega Charger," which is still in project development. The container-sized, battery-powered fast charging system in the megawatt range is expected to be able to "fast charge" heavy electric trucks within 45 minutes, making them "suitable for long distances" while simultaneously relieving the load on power grids. As described by the company on its website, the technical foundation of this pilot project, supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and major industry and university partners, is "a new charging standard for heavy commercial vehicles."

Designwerk was founded in 2007 and manufactures e-trucks, chargers, and battery systems in its Swiss plant. In addition, bespoke solutions are developed. Partners include, among others, the Volvo Group and the superstructure manufacturer Faun Group. Besides Winterthur, the company has two other locations situated in Switzerland and Germany.
