The joint venture Greenlane, comprising Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy Resources, and Blackrock, has started the construction of the first commercial charging station for electric commercial vehicles along Interstate 15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. According to Daimler Trucks, the site in Colton is expected to offer over 60 charging points for emission-free commercial vehicles of various weight classes upon completion.

The charging point in Colton is part of a planned network of charging stations aimed at promoting the acceptance of zero-emission vehicles and creating the necessary conditions for their deployment. The groundbreaking ceremony on September 9, 2024, coincided with the announcement of a $15 million grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Thanks to this funding, the expansion of the charging infrastructure at the Colton site can be accelerated and its commissioning ensured by the end of 2024, according to Daimler.

The development of this charging network is an important step towards creating the necessary infrastructure for the increasing electrification of freight transport in the United States. The planned charging corridors are intended not only for heavy-duty commercial vehicles but also for medium and light commercial vehicles, as well as for future hydrogen-powered vehicles. Greenlane plans to expand a nationwide network that is intended to support the long-term transition to zero-emission drives in freight transport.
