DAF is continuously expanding its role as a partner in the energy transition. The number of vehicles with electric drivetrains continues to increase, and there is particularly significant growth in the range of zero-emission vehicles. DAF partners now also offer a complete package of charging stations, and special training programs are provided for drivers of electric trucks. In 2023, DAF opened a new assembly plant in Eindhoven for the production of electric trucks.

International Truck of the Year

The new generation DAF electric vehicles are based on the XD and XF models, both of which have been awarded “International Truck of the Year” and, according to DAF, have set new standards in terms of efficiency, safety, and comfort. They are equipped with electric motors with an output of up to 350 kW/480 PS and are offered with a wide range of battery packs (2 to 5 packs) for an emission-free range of up to 500 kilometers. DAF's electric trucks feature LFP batteries (lithium iron phosphate) with a high energy density, offering significant advantages in terms of thermal safety, lifespan, and number of charge cycles.

Performance on the Road

DAF is extensively testing the next-generation XD and XF Electric with transport companies that are deploying the first vehicles on the road.

“With our XD Electric, we are driving almost 500 kilometers on a single charge,” says Gerloof Oegema from Oegema Transport in Dedemsvaart. “With an additional charge, we would achieve 1,000 kilometers per day, which opens up interesting possibilities for long distances.”

“We still have some challenges regarding the charging infrastructure at our location, but the XF Electric meets all our expectations,” confirms Ewout van Wijk, CEO of E. van Wijk Logistics in Giessen (Netherlands). “The driver is also very impressed with the smoothness of the truck, the tranquility and comfort in the cabin, and the ease with which the truck can be driven. A high torque is immediately available when starting.”

Cornelissen Transport in Nijmegen has taken delivery of a DAF XD and a DAF XF Electric, which they primarily use for supplying supermarkets.

“The vehicles perfectly match our goal of switching to emission-free transport,” said Peter Leegstraten, Manager Purchasing & Innovation. “And the vehicle concept behind these DAF trucks is ideally suited for urban areas. The large windshield, the low-set frame, the additional window on the passenger side, and the digital cameras ensure perfect direct visibility and, together with the electric drivetrain, form the ideal combination for us.”
