Cupra Dark Rebel: Virtual Showcar in the Metaverse

At the big party in Berlin, one almost got the impression that the Tavascan was already history for Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths. Because after that, he conjured up the Dark Rebel: a show car with a long hood and wild shapes that is reminiscent of Nolan's Batman trilogy. Therefore, Griffiths virtually invited to Gotham City and compared the Dark Rebel to the Dark Knight, who watches over the city… although the Dark Rebel is truly a rebel in appearance: a wild hybrid between a shooting brake and a sports car with a long hood and strong edges and indents all around.

Flanks like a hypercar

In doing so, Cupra has interwoven the flanks like in hypercars, to guide the air there as well, but remained rather "sensible" with the greenhouse - inside, the model could offer proper space and trunk capacity!

The community can design "their" Dark Rebel

The unique selling point is that Cupra wants to pick up potential customers in the Metaverse once again and interact with them: users can design their own Dark Rebel using a configurator, while the basic shape remains. Instead, one can play with colors, materials, and surfaces, and place the Dark Rebel in various backgrounds. "Their" Dark Rebel can then, of course, be shared as a video with the community.

The ambitious goal is that Cupra wants to incorporate all the collected configurations into the final design of the Dark Rebel - the result is to be presented in the near future. We guess that Cupra will soon put a lid on this because eventually, there will be thousands of configurations - and how are they all supposed to be considered?

Inside, you would sit on bucket seats behind a gaming steering wheel. Anything else would be inappropriate. The chances of a series production are not bad: It could become Cupra’s fourth electric vehicle and round off the program at the top – but until then, patience is required: The Tavascan is coming in 2024, the Urban Rebel in 2025, so a Dark Rebel is not expected before 2026 – if it doesn't only come in the Metaverse.

What does that mean?

Virtually, a lot can be presented and Cupra is seemingly celebrating one party after another! In fact, the Dark Rebel would no longer just target Audi and co., but could also intimidate Lamborghini in reality – it will be exciting to see how Cupra positions itself within the group in the future and when we will finally have an idea for Seat – even if it means gently letting the brand pass away...
