The logistics service provider Craiss Generation Logistik Austria has put two Mercedes eActros 300 electric trucks into operation at its Weiz location. With this initiative, the company aims to reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable logistics, according to its own statements. The goal is to make the fleet more sustainable.

According to the information, the two new vehicles are electric trucks specifically designed for regional public transport, which will be used on a ten-kilometer route in shuttle service in the future. According to the press release, the use of electric vehicles is expected to contribute to fuel savings of up to two-thirds.

"With the introduction of the electric trucks, we are sending a strong signal for sustainable logistics and demonstrating our commitment to the environment," explains Marco Niesen, deputy site manager in Weiz.

Adaptation to Local Requirements

The two eActros models are designed as so-called lowliners, which makes them ideal for transporting bulky goods. The use of mega trailers, as required by customers like Siemens Energy, is particularly feasible with these vehicles, according to Niesen.

To operate the new electric trucks efficiently, Craiss has installed a fast-charging station with a capacity of 160 kilowatts at the Weiz site. This enables both vehicles to be charged simultaneously in about four hours. To avoid disrupting shift operations, charging is preferably done outside of peak operating hours.

Sustainability as a Concept

The logistics center in Weiz also relies on sustainable technologies beyond that. The site is supplied with CO2-neutral electricity and district heating. Energy-efficient LED lighting and the use of electrically powered forklifts are also part of the concept.

With the new eActros trucks, two previously used diesel vehicles are being replaced.

"This not only achieves a reduction in CO2 emissions, but also lessens the burden on people and the environment," emphasizes Pascal Mroncz, team leader of the sustainability department at Craiss.

Future Plans

With the move towards electromobility, Craiss aims to position itself more strongly as a pioneer in sustainable logistics. The company plans to invest even more in environmentally friendly technologies in the future and to test alternative drive systems.

"With the implementation of this initiative at the Weiz site, we are contributing to a more sustainable future," summarizes Mroncz.
