Corvette goes electric: Four-door and SUV from 2025

The "essence of the Corvette" in terms of design and driving dynamics is to be the core of the EV sub-brand. Thus, GM intends to position the new Corvette series significantly more sportily compared to its competitors, such as a future trio of electric Ford Mustangs. A GM spokesperson stated that the brand value of Corvette is one of the most valued brands in the automotive industry. It is time to harness the enormous potential of the brand.

"Corvette is not just a brand. It is a continually evolving system, paired with a dramatically unique user experience!" announces a slogan from the GM Tech Center.

GM Ultium Architecture

The switch to the Ultium battery platform allows engineers to redefine proportions and technology. The mechanical package is designed to include high-energy-density battery packs, ultra-fast software, a patented cooling concept, and a layered topographical packaging. With ultra-efficient inverters and high-revving electric motors, as well as the 800-volt electrical system with up to 350 kW charging power, Corvette is set to receive only the best from the GM kit. Further technical highlights like a two-speed transmission, brake-by-wire technology, a multi-mode four-wheel steering, and torque vectoring are intended to demonstrate the sporty aspirations of the Corvette EV sub-brand.

Role Model Porsche

Starting in 2025, GM plans to introduce a Corvette brand that will include, among other things, a sporty four-door coupe and a crossover. Both new Corvettes will be available exclusively as electric vehicles. The reason: sports cars are useful image carriers and are usually very profitable. Porsche proved this in the early 2000s with the Cayenne SUV. A lot of profit can be made by expanding the brand into other vehicle segments.
