To advance the electrification of Hamburg's taxi fleet, Free Now and Aral are launching a joint initiative. Effective immediately, Free Now drivers can quickly charge their electric vehicles at all Aral stations in the Hanseatic city and utilize additional services. Meanwhile, Aral is expanding its charging network with high power chargers. With the start of this cooperation, the partners are giving Hamburg taxi companies another incentive to electrify their fleets.

"The expansion of the charging infrastructure is a prerequisite for the rapid electrification of the taxi industry. The 'Zukunftstaxi' project in the Hanseatic City of Hamburg is already a major milestone that has generated significant interest not only among our customers but also within the industry. With Aral, we now have a partner that will significantly increase the number of charging points in Hamburg. Taxi companies benefit from attractive conditions and can thus meet the rapidly increasing demand even faster," says Alexander Mönch, General Manager Germany & Austria at Free Now.

Ultra-Fast Charging Network at Aral Continues to Expand

In light of the unpredictable range of distances, powerful charging options en route are a fundamental requirement to efficiently use electric vehicles and meet the ever-growing demand. Therefore, Aral plans to continue accelerating the expansion of its charging infrastructure. Aral is part of the energy company bp, which aims to become a leading provider of charging stations and to establish charging hubs at high-traffic locations.

Free Now drivers receive exclusive conditions at the Hamburg location with their Aral Fuel & Charge card in the rapidly growing Aral pulse charging network and benefit from particularly short charging times with charging capacities of up to 350 kilowatts. In addition, only green electricity is used, allowing connected FREE NOW drivers to offer their passengers locally emission-free mobility.

Start only in Hamburg

"Hamburg is a pioneer in the integration of modern mobility concepts. For us, it is the perfect first city to advance zero-emission mobility together with FREE NOW. Together, we show that e-mobility is also practical in the area of ride-hailing – that is, the transportation of people through apps – and is especially good for the climate thanks to green electricity at the charging station," says Alexander Junge, Aral board member for e-mobility.

Together with Free Now, Aral wants to take further steps. The partnership is set to be expanded in the near future and transferred to other cities and countries as well. The Aral Fuel & Charge Card provides drivers with access to the Aral pulse network and to around 65,000 charging points in Germany – this corresponds to about 99 percent of all publicly accessible charging points. In Europe, the card offers access to more than 263,000 public charging points.

What does this mean?

Binding taxi drivers to an exclusive network with the Aral Fuel & Charge Card is a smart move by the gas station operators.
