Continental: Tires should also be optimized for electric cars
A low rolling resistance, high mileage, and low external noise without compromising on safety have always characterized the development of new car tires at Continental. This explains why the tire manufacturer does not develop specialized tires for electric vehicles but rather considers important factors such as mileage in all new developments. The brand now expresses this with the "EV compatible" logo on the sidewall of all newly developed tire models.
The company from Hanover now claims that all current tires in its portfolio already meet the high demands of electric vehicles. At the same time, they reduce the fuel consumption of vehicles with conventional drives. Improving the rolling resistance class of the EU tire label by just one class already increases the range of an electric vehicle by three to four percent. The tire manufacturer also speaks of tire technologies that allow for higher loads due to heavy batteries or reduce the rolling noise, which is particularly audible in the interior of vehicles with quiet electric drives.
For original equipment, manufacturers such as Tesla, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, BYD, and Ford rely on tires from Continental, writes the company from Hanover.
