Conti Urban: Sensors will soon be waking up in bus tires
Continental is opening the door wide to intelligent tire solutions and advancing the digitalization of bus fleets – as the first tire manufacturer to claim this, the company has equipped its entire Urban tire line with the latest generation of sensors. These provide live data on various parameters such as tire pressure and tire temperature via Bluetooth directly on the vehicle. Fleet management can access the data through a stationary measuring point, the Yard Reader, or via telematics units – if data deviates, immediate action can be taken to reduce vehicle breakdowns and downtime, lower CO2 emissions, and save costs.
"With our ContiConnect On-Site app and our Conti Urban tire family, the customer can retrieve tire data via Bluetooth with a smartphone – simple and convenient."
The pressure for companies to switch to alternative drives and digitalize their fleets is growing. With the new Conti Urban tire as part of the digital tire management solution ContiConnect 2.0, Continental aims to support municipalities and public transport providers in offering a “reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly public transport system,” according to the accompanying press release.
Environment, Sustainability, and Cost Efficiency Firmly in Focus
Operational safety, longer tire life, and good vehicle utilization would effectively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and the sustainability of the fleet. At the same time, digital tire management would enable the achievement of the effectively lowest fleet costs – according to Continental's holistic consulting approach, the "Lowest Overall Driving Costs," or LODC. Additionally, the tire sensors are a basis for leveraging future advantages such as remote fleet monitoring and predictive service planning.
Furthermore, the manufacturer notes that experience has shown customers using the digital tire management solution ContiConnect "have around 30% fewer tire punctures, save 2% on fuel, and can utilize around 10% more mileage."
