Conti introduces all-season tire for electric cars

The tire manufacturer Continental from Hanover has announced the all-season tire AllSeasonContact in the rolling resistance class A. Additionally, four out of five dimensions come with an XL marking for higher loads. In this combination, the manufacturer sees an ideal retrofit option for electric vehicles, optimizing load capacity and range. For the time being, the tire will be available in five dimensions, which are common in popular electric models such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia e-Niro, Peugeot e-2008, and Opel Mokka-e. The developers have managed to reduce the amount of material and further optimize the rubber compound for rolling resistance, according to the provider. These measures are intended to reduce the deformation of the tire in the contact area, resulting in the tire giving off less energy to the road, a primary source of rolling resistance.

“We are convinced that there is no one tire for fully electric vehicles. Accordingly, we have been working for more than a decade to further develop our existing portfolio to meet the requirements of all electric vehicles while also being able to sustainably reduce the emissions of internal combustion vehicles,” advertises Andreas Schlenke, a tire developer at Continental.

Accordingly, the tire is also available in dimensions for the VW Passat (Elegance, GTE) and the Skoda Superb (STYLE, Premium Edition). Additionally, approvals have already been obtained for the VW Transporter and Caddy as well as the Jeep Compass. At the same time, fleet operators could save costs on rebonding and storage by using all-season tires.
