Conti: Display order from Asia worth one billion euros

The Hanover-based supplier group Continental has received a major order worth over one billion euros to supply a V-shaped display. The solution will be integrated into several vehicle models of a globally operating Asian car manufacturer. This will further drive the development of large, seamless, and individually shaped displays, says the manufacturer.

"Our V-shaped display offers exceptional comfort and ergonomics for drivers, simplifies the capture of important driving information, and provides an appealing two-in-one solution. It is suitable for a variety of vehicle variants," advertises Philipp von Hirschheydt, head of the User Experience business unit at Continental.

According to the manufacturer, incoming orders for display solutions now amount to more than 5.5 billion euros. The V-shape consists of flat, backlit displays covered with curved glass. The solution extends from the driver area to the center console, visually connecting the two screens of the instrument cluster and the central display under one surface. The radius and angle of the display solution are centered on the driver's perspective, placing the driver at the center of information output. The ergonomics of the display are intended to make it even easier to perceive relevant information quickly, reducing distraction and potentially making driving safer. Production is planned to start in 2023.

Thanks to the use of a special adhesive technology called Optical Bonding, there is no visible boundary or gap between the instrument cluster and the embedded central display, resulting in a seamless appearance. The display's freestanding design allows for harmonious integration into the curved lines of elegant dashboard shapes. Due to the specific radius created by the V-shaped arrangement, all display content is shown at almost the same viewing distance, making it even more comfortable to read.
