Coca-Cola Germany aims to have a fully electric vehicle fleet by 2025
Coca-Cola also wants to drastically reduce its CO2 footprint. In 2020, the fleet is said to have emitted around 14,600 tons. Tilmann Rothhammer, Managing Director Supply Chain at Coca-Cola European Partners Germany, sees significant potential here in switching to electromobility. Specifically, the company is targeting 1,830 cars and 460 vans, all of which are to become electric. With the end of each leasing contract, electric vehicles are to follow, so that the fleet is completely converted by 2025. Rothhammer sees "considerable potential to reduce CO2 emissions" here.
In addition, the beverage manufacturer is investing around 800,000 euros to build the necessary charging infrastructure at the sites – so that the conversion can be implemented "in terms of range and charging options as best as possible." Those using a company or service vehicle will also be supported in purchasing a wall box.
However, the Coca-Cola announcement does not specify exactly what this will look like in concrete terms and what type of charging infrastructure is planned. But there are already similar projects within the company: In Norway, 100 Opel Ampera-e were already procured in 2018. Now it’s Germany's turn. And since Coca-Cola European Partners has joined the EV100 initiative of the Climate Group, this entails the commitment to convert all of the approximately 8,000 company cars and vans across Europe to electric drive by 2030.
The latest interim report of the EV100 initiative shows progress: Within one year (2019 to 2020), the number of electric vehicles operated by the large multinational companies in the EV100 initiative has increased to 169,000. That's more than twice as many as in 2019. By 2030, the EV100 companies aim to deploy more than 4.8 million electric vehicles.
What does that mean?
The end of combustion engines by 2030 is also taking shape in the first company fleets. Specifically, among the members of the EV100 initiative, which Coca-Cola is also committed to.
