The two vehicles of the on-demand transportation Wittlich Shuttle have been serving the local Corona vaccination center since January 2021. The city of Wittlich thus offers free transportation to the center. Since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic in spring 2020, ridepooling, which was the core of the project, has been suspended. Masks have been mandatory in the vehicles since then, and according to software partner ioki, they are regularly disinfected.
The on-demand shuttle service, bookable via app or phone, was used by nearly 12,000 passengers in 2020 despite the Corona pandemic. It serves over 70 stops in Wittlich, operates daily but at different times, and a ride has cost a maximum of three euros since January 2020. The operator of the digital on-call bus is DB Regio Bus, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn.
