Citroën Ami is finally coming to Germany

LEVs have a tough time in Germany. Opel's counterpart started it all, and now "the original" 48-volt light electric vehicle from Citroën is set to launch here. Sales are conducted entirely online. They point to the success in Europe with 48,000 orders, the debate over parking spaces, and aim to offer affordable e-mobility for everyone.

The French Stellantis subsidiary Citroën has presented a new, light electric mobility solution with the Ami, which is accessible and easy to use for anyone aged 15 and older. The "original" is now set to launch in Germany as well. The manufacturer points to more than 48,000 orders for the two-seater across Europe and the context of the parking space debate.

"Some cities are already measuring parking fees based on size or weight, which makes the Ami a practical solution for urban traffic. Protected from weather influences, compact in dimensions, lightweight, and still with a suitable range for daily use, it is a clever alternative for urban mobility – and this year it will also be available everywhere from Flensburg to Garmisch-Partenkirchen," explains Citroën Germany's marketing director Roman Franke.

Starting with the significant price adjustment of the car list prices and the sales launch of the new ë-C3, the first affordable European electric car, the launch of the Ami in Germany is the next step in Citroën's mission to make mobility affordable to more people again, the provider advertises. The Citroën Ami will be available for order starting from spring, and the sale of the electric mobility solution will take place exclusively online. The first customers will receive the lightweight vehicle from summer onwards.

The 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery is fully recharged in just about three hours using a household outlet. Due to its compact dimensions (length: 2.41 meters, width: 1.39 meters, height: 1.52 meters) and a turning circle of only 7.20 meters, the vehicle is expected to be very city-friendly. This is also supported by the range of up to 75 kilometers and a top speed of up to 45 km/h. The Ami allows two passengers to drive in an enclosed, heated, bright, and thoroughly protected interior. In Germany, anyone who holds at least an AM class driver's license is allowed to drive the new Ami.
