Chery: Fulwin estate with solid-state battery and up to 1,500 kilometers range!

At the Guangzhou Auto Show 2024, Chery attracted attention: The station wagon concept of the Fulwin sub-brand is supposed to offer a range of up to 1,500 kilometers – thanks to a solid-state battery!

The Chinese automotive industry is starting to think big instead of small: Chery, previously more known for subtle modernity in its production models, unveiled an attractively designed concept with a solid-state battery.

Visually, the Fulwind looks like a shooting brake, with a striking communicative LED daytime running light front and subtly hidden main headlights. The sides are elegantly designed with flowing lines similar to Mazda and Nissan, and the roof features a panoramic dome with a color change function – it finishes at the rear with a distinctive double spoiler. Side cameras replace external mirrors.

The big question is: Who will be the first to bring the solid-state battery to series production?

The concept uses an 800-volt platform and is supposed to offer a range of up to 1,500 kilometers. Granted, according to the lenient Chinese CLTC standard, but: even in the worst-case winter scenario, that would still be a real 1,000 kilometers plus or minus x! Chery has been chasing range records with its subsidiary Fulwin for quite some time: Even the rather plain-looking plug-in Fulwin T10 is said to offer a range of up to 2,100 kilometers.

But Chery is also stepping up its game with electric motors: Up to 30,000 revolutions per minute allow for a top speed of up to 260 km/h and acceleration to 100 km/h in three seconds.

Partially autonomous driving up to Level 3

The intelligent cockpit is designed to create “an innovative driving experience” and the car should be able to operate partially autonomously up to Level 3. This means drivers can divert their attention away from the traffic. Control is managed via steer-by-wire on all four wheels.

Comfort has also been considered: It includes dual-effect air suspension and an electronic CDC shock absorber system to automatically adapt the car to different driving conditions.

Inside, you will find a 15.6-inch infotainment system powered by a high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. An integrated AI voice assistant is intended to offer additional comfort. A speaker system with 23 speakers is supposed to ensure the best surround sound.

And since it is a station wagon, it also offers flexibility inside: The front passenger seat can be fully reclined in a relax position, while the rear seats can be adjusted by 15 degrees to increase interior flexibility.

What does that mean?

As presented, the car would be a "full win" for Chery: Apparently, "everything" was considered and the best available technology implemented. This model in Europe with a service network and for under 50,000 euros would be a "full win" for Chery, whereas they are otherwise cautiously venturing into the German market with the somewhat mundane Jaecoo and Omoda. From 2025….
