Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) emphasized the importance of the automotive industry for Germany's economy. "Germany is a country where the economy greatly depends on our success in building automobiles," Scholz said on Monday during a visit to Mercedes-Benz in Sindelfingen. Mercedes-Benz is directly connected with the history of the country and its ability to produce and export vehicles worldwide.

At the invitation of works council chief Ergun Lümali, Scholz first participated in a staff meeting before heading to a test track where he took the wheel himself. Finally, there was a factory tour on the agenda, during which Scholz also interacted with employees of the automaker.

According to Mercedes-Benz, luxury and premium vehicles such as the S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and the EQS are manufactured in Sindelfingen. A total of 35,000 employees work at the site, 21,500 of whom are in production. Last year, around 220,000 cars were produced in Sindelfingen, as reported by Mercedes-Benz.
