CES 2023: Mobileye advances autonomous driving with Zeekr and Holon

Accelerated growth is expected at the Intel subsidiary with the SuperVision driver assistance system and future orders for autonomous vehicles. Especially with Geely and Zeekr, the provider is experiencing a boost; it is developing with a European premium OEM and negotiating with a global LVC provider.

Mobileye founder and CEO Professor Amnon Shashua emphasized the leading role in the field of autonomous vehicles and pioneering driver assistance technologies at CES 2023 and announced further details about the company's goals for 2023 and beyond. In particular, the pioneer in automated driving explained how future AVs can be brought to market on a large scale, based on the SuperVision driver assistance system, which opens up higher levels of autonomy. The Intel subsidiary now expects revenues of more than 17 billion USD by 2030 in the ADAS sector, including 3.5 billion USD in projected revenues from SuperVision alone, a product that was only launched in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Thanks to other new products such as the EyeQ6 system-on-a-chip, this segment grew particularly in 2022: Mobileye recorded 6.7 billion USD in projected revenues in the ADAS sector – with a projected future volume of 63.6 million systems. Additionally, Mobileye announced an expected revenue of an additional 3.5 billion USD from autonomous Mobility-as-a-Service products by 2028. This is based on contracts with three major partners – including a recently secured Mobility-as-a-Service AV program with a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer based in the EU. Furthermore, the company expects revenues of 1.5 billion USD by 2030 from a consumer AV program (Mobileye Chauffeur).

“In the short time since our IPO in October, Mobileye has been able to significantly accelerate business development. We have received very positive feedback from our existing customers as well as from new automakers who believe in our vision: to develop a cloud-connected, AI-driven driver assistance and autonomous vehicle technology that is globally scalable and can provide great benefits to millions of drivers worldwide,” says Shashua.

He sees the system as a market leader and notes strong demand in the Chinese market. More than 70,000 Zeekr 001 EV owners will soon receive an additional over-the-air update that will unlock important map-based features. The system will also be integrated into the soon-to-be-released Zeekr 009 as well as in the near future in models from three other brands of the Geely Group worldwide. By combining a pure camera sensor system with Mobileye's core mapping and decision-making technologies, the system aims to offer automakers an affordable, flexible platform to create "Eyes-on, Hands-off" driving experiences for various applications. The success and rapid market introduction of the system in the highly competitive Chinese automotive industry have led to new business deals for SuperVision-based systems worldwide, according to the provider.

European Premium Manufacturer in the Focus of Mobileye

The Intel subsidiary has commenced development work with a European premium automotive manufacturer – execution is expected by 2025. Furthermore, the company is in advanced development phases with other customers. Overall, it is anticipated that the production volume of SuperVision-based vehicles will reach about 1.2 million units per year by 2026. Additionally, OEMs are expressing a strong desire to leverage investments in the system to enable autonomous eyes-off functions – comparable to SAE Level 3 and Level 4 – in a variety of use cases. This can be achieved by simply adding additional sensors and computing power in a modular manner. Mid-term, this promises the creation of a high-quality, cost-efficient eyes-off product for vehicles.

Continuous Progress in Mobility-as-a-Service and Validation

In addition to SuperVision and AVs for private individuals, the provider further developed its Mobileye Drive Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) technology for autonomous vehicles in 2022. The company recently signed a letter of intent for several thousand units with a major global manufacturer of light commercial vehicles. In 2023, it plans to continue validating its AV technology, such as through a pilot phase with the latest vehicle technology in Germany. While public perception of AVs has changed over the past year, Mobileye remained focused on providing scalable, modular AV technology.

"To strengthen public and regulatory trust in autonomous vehicles, robust, transparent validation is required," the specialist is convinced.

For this reason, Amnon Shashua is presenting the three-stage validation process for Mobileye's AV technology for the first time at CES 2023. This process leverages the company's valuable resources such as Road Experience Mapping data and True Redundancy. A combination of real tests, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop validation allows Mobileye to use extensive data from road tests to develop AV solutions on a large scale. Mobileye's MaaS partners are also making further progress.

Benteler subsidiary Holon relies on Mobileye for its People Mover

At CES 2023, the AV cooperation partner Holon, a Benteler subsidiary, is presenting a new autonomous People Mover with Mobileye Drive – one of Mobileye's many worldwide collaborations with companies that rely on various AV business models. Mobileye focuses on affordable solutions that can be deployed globally and flexibly built for different vehicle types. The company sees this as a clear and financially sustainable path to developing AVs that can be used by both consumers and fleets.

Further Expansion of ADAS

The reasons for the rapid further development are based on continuous innovations within the ADAS market, where the company continues to see strong demand and significant growth. Just last year, 233 models with the technology were launched worldwide. The innovation roadmap includes new key technologies such as imaging radar – a sensor that can offer the advantages of lidar at a fraction of the cost. Having demonstrated the potential of imaging radar last year, Mobileye is now working with the experienced automotive radar provider Wistron NeWeb to bring the technology to series maturity within two years. Other solutions, from cloud-supported services to intelligent speed assistants, are also seeing increases among globally recognized automakers.
