CES 2022: Here and Apcoa direct to charging stations in parking garages

The navigation data specialist HERE Technologies added more than 400 parking garages to its existing indoor maps through a partnership with APCOA and Propark Mobility at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. In Germany alone, data from around 150 parking garages operated by APCOA will be integrated. In North America, the expansion of coverage with Propark Mobility, one of the largest private parking garage operators in North America, has already begun. The indoor maps include the essential elements of a parking garage – individual parking spaces, lanes, ramps, and pedestrian pathways. The service aims to provide integrated routing for vehicles and pedestrians, with entrances and exits seamlessly connecting to the road map.

E-car drivers can see parking spaces with charging points

For greater driving comfort, drivers of electric vehicles can also identify parking spaces where they can charge their vehicle on the map. Continuous routing, which does not break off at the parking garage entrance, opens new possibilities for automated valet parking (AVP), the provider advertises. This future technology was originally presented back in October 2021 at the ITS World Congress in Hamburg. There, vehicles navigated through the Elbphilharmonie parking garage using AVP Type-1 technology with the help of sensors and an automatically downloaded map.

"The support of most navigation systems currently ends at the curb. With our new indoor maps for parking garages, we are changing that. Contextual destination guidance can now extend to individual parking spaces in garages. Once the car is parked, our pedestrian routing provides orientation to the actual destination," advertises Victor van Dinten, Head of Indoor Parking & Charging at HERE Technologies.
