CES 2022: BMW presents iX M60

Live again in 2022: The CES – which BMW is using this time to present the iX M60, along with a mobile cinema system for the car and a new high-tech paint that can "switch" colors.

For BMW, the CES remains a fixture: After it was held only digitally in 2021, they will start hybrid in 2022. That means streaming and live in the exhibition halls, with the requirement of being vaccinated to enter. BMW is using the CES this time to present the new top model of the iX series, the iX M60. It also has the 105.2-kWh battery and is expected to deliver over 600 hp.

In terms of appearance, they are experimenting with wild color combinations—which, like the overwhelming performance, might find more approval in the USA than in Europe. According to BMW, the color-changing paint can alter its hue at the push of a button, likely through electrical voltage in the paint.

And since the CES originally celebrated its roots as "Consumer Electronics," BMW is also introducing something new here that Chinese manufacturers and VW with the ID.Life have been demonstrating for some time: a cinema for the car, called "In-Car Movie-Theatre" by BMW. BMW has yet to specify which model this could be in, but it might possibly already be the new 7 Series.

What does that mean?

The CES program fits perfectly with the exhibition, including both "nice-to-haves" and "must-haves." In that sense, BMW has well prepared for the exhibition and audience—though in Europe, it can still be coped with not having experienced it "live."
