Carwow: Electric vehicles are the most searched powertrain for the first time
As of January 2020, 52 percent of all new cars configured on Car Wow were petrol-powered. This was followed by diesels at 18 percent, electric vehicles (EVs) at 16 percent, and hybrids at 14 percent. In June 2021, EVs surpassed all other categories for the first time: they stood at 35 percent, just one point ahead of petrol cars, with hybrids remaining at 17 percent and diesels dropping to 14 percent. The trend seems to be continuing: in July, 40 percent of Car Wow users were looking for an EV, petrol cars dropped to 32 percent, diesels to only twelve percent, and hybrids stayed at 17 percent.
Carwow has also broken down discounts and subsidies, with the Smart EQ Fortwo leading at 53 percent, followed by the Renault Twingo at 52 percent and the similar Smart Forfour at 50 percent. Next were the Dacia Spring (45 percent discount) and the Renault Zoe at 42 percent. The Opel Corsa e also had a 42 percent discount, followed by the Zafira e life at 41 percent. You can now also get a 40 percent discount on a BMW i3, making it available from 24,230 euros.
It looks entirely different in the Top Ten configurations on Car Wow, where the new mid-range class dominates: Here, the list of the most popular electric cars looks like this:
- Skoda Enyaq iV
- Hyundai Ioniq 5
- Audi Q4 e-tron
- VW ID.3
- VW ID.4
- Tesla Model 3
- Renault Zoe
- Dacia Spring
- Opel Corsa-e
- Polestar 2
What does that mean?
Electric mobility seems to be gradually but surely making a breakthrough. What were previously "feelings" from acquaintances and relatives, where there was increasing demand for an electric alternative, is now manifesting in numbers at Carwow, which directly enter the market or come from the market. The electric car is on the rise. It will be exciting to see how strong this trend remains when subsidies and discounts diminish.
