Cadillac Sollei: You have to think of this accessory first!

It is just a concept, but GM has the basis for it with the Celestiq: The Sollei Concept derives its name from the Latin word for sun (sol) and the English word for leisure, and it could go into a very limited production like the Celestiq. And: It has accessories on board that you would never have thought of!

After China is moving more towards its own new luxury brands and Europe's luxury models and hypercars are already globally present, the USA should also show their colors again... the Sollei apparently is a huge, 2+2-seater convertible with two doors and a metal folding roof with elaborate mechanics. Color-wise, they also refer to the heydays of the late 1950s, when the biggest and wildest dinosaurs ever were created in the US auto industry: Cadillacs were already painted in Manila Cream, a cream yellow, back in the 50s.

Officially, the Sollei is a "fantastic design project" - but the hardware is ready

Cadillac officially calls it a "fantasy design project" that is intended to "push the boundaries of future custom creations." Translated, this means: If customers shell out even more money than the $250,000 plus x for the Celestiq, they could offer it on the electric Ultium platform as a "cutting" as well. And with that, it would be the largest electric luxury convertible in the world. Like the Celestiq, a line runs from the headlights over the trim behind the front fenders to the taillights. At Cadillac, they are always vertical but now come from below and do not stick out as fins.

Instead of traditional door handles, discreet buttons are used, keeping the surfaces smooth. The windshield has a frame made of brushed aluminum. Inside, there is the brand’s typical 55-inch giant screen, known from the Celestiq, which spans the entire width of the vehicle. There are also control consoles in the front and rear.

Crazy: The mycelium, the root network of fungi, provides a new raw material for interior linings

And of course, the Sollei can also be a bit eco-friendly: For example, with the bio-based material "Fine Mycelium" from the specialist MycoWorks, which is used for the lining of the charging trays on the center console and for the map pockets in the doors: It is made from mycelium, the fine root network of fungi.

Additionally, there are also traditional materials such as Nappa leather or wood veneers with marquetry and open-pore surfaces. Furthermore, there is an integrated beverage cooler with an electric glass door and crystal glasses. The Sollei also features special ambient lighting with multiple zones and 126 different colors in each zone.

Cadillac is crazy: On board are whistles for mimicking or attracting birds

Particularly thoughtful of ornithologists or bird lovers: There is a case made of brushed metal and leather, which contains acrylic glass whistles ("3D printed acrylic bird calls") to call birds! Even crazier is the leather-bound book with hand-painted bird illustrations, along with a leather roll for pens and pencils to draw the feathered friends.

The concept was presented in the so-called “Cadillac House at Vanderbilt,” a chic building on the campus of GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren (Michigan), north of Detroit. Incidentally, you can also customize your Celestiq there. So far, only a few have reportedly been built. We received no response to our inquiry, which in itself can be a kind of answer...

Beneath the Celestiq are the Lyriq and Optiq, both of which are also available in Europe. In addition, there are the seven-seater SUV Escalade IQ and its smaller brother, Vistiq. All names that sound a bit like Titanic and co. Nevertheless, one can hope that Cadillac at least returns to the super-luxury segment in the US – somewhere discreetly below Rolls-Royce and discreetly above Mercedes-Maybach...

What does that mean?

Cadillac wants to return to the super-luxury segment, where it was in the 1950s with limousines, coupes, and four-seater convertibles, once truly the “Standard of the world.” Whether you need bird whistles, drawing tools, and a crystal glass bar for that is up for debate. The decadence is somewhat reminiscent of the last dance on the Titanic...
