The manufacturer partnership of ADL and BYD UK is set to deliver up to 200 Enviro200EV buses to the National Transport Authority of Ireland (NTA) – as outlined in a recently signed framework agreement with a duration of five years. The delivery of 45 12-meter-long electric buses starting from early 2022 has simultaneously been secured as a firm order. They are expected to be deployed in Athlone and the Greater Dublin Area.

First Order from BYD-ADL for Ireland

According to the company, the contract was preceded by a comprehensive and rigorous procurement process, during which the BYD ADL partnership, represented by ADL as the main contractor, "submitted the strongest offer." This is the first order the manufacturer collaboration has received from Ireland to date and "the largest order for zero-emission buses in the country to date."

“The signed contract for the delivery of these battery-electric buses underscores the NTA's commitment to a sustainable and accessible transport network. Over the next five years, we plan to significantly increase the number of low-emission and zero-emission city buses operating within the Transport For Ireland (TFI) network across the country,” said Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority (NTA).

The ordered BYD-ADL Enviro200EVs will be tailored to the specific needs of the NTA and its operators. To meet the diverse operational requirements, the 12-meter-long electric solo buses can be delivered in various configurations, “including a version with two doors, a wheelchair space, and a dedicated area for housing at least one unfolded pram, stroller, or buggy,” the company states.
