Important milestone: BYD has delivered over 70,000 pure electric buses to customers worldwide by January 2022. It has been just over a decade since the Chinese company launched its strategy to electrify public transportation and the first fleet of BYD e-buses went into commercial operation. Together, they have covered 5.5 billion electric kilometers, reducing CO2 emissions by 3.8 million tons. In Europe alone, the Chinese manufacturer has delivered more than 1,800 electric buses, which are in operation in over 100 major European cities across 20 countries. Altogether, they have traveled over 140 million kilometers, corresponding to a reduction of 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions. BYD was also the first company to exhibit an electric bus at Busworld Europe in 2011 in Kortrijk.
Expansion of the BYD E-Bus Factory in Hungary
BYD continues to invest in and expand its e-bus factory in Hungary to emphasize the "Made in Europe for Europe" principle. With this expansion, the production capacity will be increased to 400 electric buses per year in a single shift to meet the ever-growing demand for e-buses in Europe. The plant in Hungary enables the production of BYD's entire range of e-buses, from the 8.7-meter midibus to the 18-meter articulated bus. In this facility, BYD also manufactures the chassis for single and double-decker e-buses for the UK market, with 300 units produced in a single shift. BYD is currently the only e-bus manufacturer that produces its own drive system, batteries, e-motors, and motor control system.
