Brussels Motor Show 2023: Dacia Spring now also with a more powerful 48 kW electric motor
The city electric car has reportedly been ordered over 100,000 times globally since its market launch in 2021 and has already been delivered 18,500 times in Germany. Dacia subtly enhances this with the new logo: With the introduction of the new "Extreme" version, Dacia also presents the new Electric 65 motor with 65 HP/48 kW power. The WLTP power consumption is said to be 14.5 kWh/100 km combined. The drive, exclusively reserved for the Spring Extreme, is paired with a new gearbox, which is intended to increase the torque transmitted to the drive wheels while also allowing for better acceleration and more effective recuperation. With the new Electric 65 motor, the Spring Extreme achieves a range of up to 220 kilometers in the WLTP mixed cycle and 305 kilometers in the WLTP city cycle. The base motor, Electric 45 with 45 HP/33 kW, remains unchanged and is available for the "Essential" equipment level. It is said to have a WLTP power consumption of 13.9 kWh/100 km – unfortunately, this will not improve the rather limited range of the Spring.
"Extreme" also stands out visually
The new Dacia Spring Extreme Electric 65 is available exclusively for the series in the new color "Slate Blue" and features exclusive design elements: External features include copper-colored accents on the roof rails, external mirror housings, wheel hubs, the Dacia logo on the tailgate, and below the headlights. There are also patterns in the style of a topographic map on the front doors and decorative elements in the style of vertical protectors with a hinted air outlet between the doors and fenders on the Duster. The topographic pattern also appears on the lower protective strips.
"Map graphics" also inside
In the interior, the map graphics continue on the door sills and the durable rubber floor mats. The color scheme, with copper-colored elements on the front door panels, ventilation nozzles, and the central control unit, is also matched to the exterior design. In addition, there are copper-colored decorative stitches on the seats, as well as the embossed new Dacia logo, the so-called "Dacia Link," on the front backrests.
In Germany, orders for the Dacia Spring Extreme Electric 65 will start on January 17 at prices starting from 24,550 euros (roughly 20,630 euros net, plus delivery costs, excluding electric bonus). The Spring Essential Electric 45 will then be available from 22,750 euros (roughly 19,117 euros net plus delivery costs, excluding electric bonus). The new "Extreme" equipment replaces the Expression options package, which nine out of ten Spring buyers in Germany have chosen so far (eight out of ten worldwide). According to Dacia, the first deliveries of the Dacia Spring Extreme with the new Electric 65 motor will take place "before summer 2023."
What does this mean?
Dacia is expanding its Spring portfolio with the more powerful "Extreme Electric 65". What would be more important to us, however, is a bit more range, because currently, even on medium distances, it is difficult with the otherwise well-designed entry-level electric vehicle.
