The British sharing provider Beryl is now relying on remanufactured drives from Brose E-Bike. At the start of the bicycle season, Brose simultaneously delivered the largest order to date since the inception of its program for refurbished motors to the United Kingdom. Beryl is using models of the Drive Calu type for its city e-bike fleet. Beryl offers affordable bike, e-bike, e-cargo bike, and e-scooter sharing services throughout England.

50% CO2 emissions are saved

Brose started its remanufacturing program in 2021. In August 2023, the reman drives were available on the market for the first time. Compared to production with new parts, the Berlin-based system manufacturer saves around 50% CO2 emissions per unit through standard reconditioning. In the case of Beryl's order, that's 15.1 tons of CO2.

In remanufacturing, Brose uses parts from drives that were claimed under warranty before expiration. Service technicians thoroughly inspect and clean the components—overall around 30% of the total weight of a motor—before supplementing them with missing new parts and assembling them into a reconditioned drive. The reuse of the components makes the reman drives significantly cheaper for customers. Nevertheless, they are qualitatively on par with new products, which is why Brose also provides a two-year warranty here.
