According to Brigade Electronics, Radar Predict analyzes data such as the speed and direction of both the vehicle and the cyclist using AI technology. By distinguishing between static and moving objects, the Radar Predict algorithm then warns the truck driver when a collision with a cyclist is likely.

Radar Predict is designed to support the truck driver's view through a dual radar mounted on the side of the vehicle, ensuring complete side coverage including the trailer unit. The trailer detection mode, according to the provider, indicates whether the vehicle is equipped with a trailer and prevents the pivot movement from triggering false alarms.

This way, the driver is only warned when a cyclist enters the detection area and poses a potential collision risk. The system provides differentiated visual and acoustic warnings based on time to collision, issuing an initial notification upon detection and escalating to a more urgent warning if an imminent collision is predicted.

Among the key features of Radar Predict are a 180-degree person detection, which is deactivated at over 30 kilometers per hour, a detection range of 4.5 meters up to 46 meters, and reduced false alarms, as the system only issues warnings when a collision is likely. At the same time, according to Brigade Electronics, Radar Predict meets the requirements of UNECE Regulation 151 and complies with DVS PSS requirements. John Osmant, Managing Director of Brigade Electronics GmbH:

“Radar Predict was specifically developed to solve the problems caused by blind spots for truck drivers when maneuvering in close proximity to cyclists. The system ensures complete coverage of the entire side of the vehicle, including the trailer, and reduces false warnings for the driver, as it only activates when a collision is likely. Additionally, Radar Predict is automatically activated when the vehicle turns, so the driver does not need to use the turn signal.”

Accidents involving large vehicles, such as trucks, are far more likely to end fatally than accidents involving cars. Many collisions between cyclists and trucks are due to the fact that the driver has only a limited "direct view" from the cab, meaning the ability to see the vehicle's surroundings without indirect aids such as mirrors or cameras.
