Bremerhaven: First H2 Bus in Retro Look on Tour

The first of seven twelve-meter hydrogen buses from the Portuguese manufacturer Caetano started service last Monday (January 16) in Bremerhaven, sporting a striking colorful retro outfit. It operates on the route of the Hafen-Liner (HL), running from Havenwelten and Elbinger Platz to the main train station, then continuing via Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and Georgstraße to the final stop at the Thünen Institute and back.

According to the transport operator Bremerhaven Bus, the hydrogen tanks on the roof enable a range of 400 km. Its message for the climate-friendly public transport of the future "Air & Love" instead of noise and CO₂, as well as its advantages "Without loud engine", "Without emissions" ... immediately catch the eye on the sides of the emission-free H2.City Gold.

The Caetano H2.City Gold is refueled with green hydrogen at a mobile H2 fueling station on the depot. Here, the green hydrogen is temporarily stored for refueling purposes after being delivered. In the long term, a public filling station is expected to be established near the depot, where green hydrogen produced in Bremerhaven can be refueled. The completion, for which the company Green Fuels is responsible, is scheduled for spring 2023. According to Green Fuels, the costs amount to 10 million euros - roughly half of which is funded through the federal transport ministry's "Hyland" project.

Two more hydrogen buses are already on site and are expected to go into service soon, similarly designed. The remaining four are expected in the seaside city by the end of the second quarter, bringing around 10% of Bremerhaven Bus's fleet to be emission-free.
