BMW is likely to use the summer holidays for retooling: Then in Leipzig, the iX1 will follow the i3. The new entry into BMW's electric world is expected to offer a range of 413 to 438 kilometers according to the WLTP standard, which in everyday life should be around 300 kilometers give or take. BMW indicates the combined consumption to be 17.3 to 18.4 kWh/100 km, which are not exceedingly frugal values. Although these are still forecast values based on the current development status (March 2022), the i4 in its basic version comes to 16.1 to 19.1 kWh/100 km. BMW might start the iX1 with a more powerful all-wheel-drive version. Later on, an even more potent M model is also conceivable.
The teaser image offers reassurance for fans, as do the prototypes currently on the road: The motto is evolution rather than revolution – visually, the X1 will clearly orient itself to its ideological predecessor. Including a more closed front than the internal combustion counterparts and possibly with blue accents like the iX3.
Digitally, the X1 is likely to take the next step in line with the iX and the 2 Series Active Tourer. This means: even more intuitive voice assistance, but not necessarily better haptic controls. According to preliminary information about the iX1, the new generation of the X1 with internal combustion engines will start at the end of 2022. Shortly thereafter, the plug-in hybrid version and the iX1 will be introduced. The electric version is likely to be more expensive than the part-time electric vehicle, which currently starts at 46,400 euros, that's about 38,990 euros net. Nonetheless, we expect a price of under 50,000 euros gross for the base model.
What does that mean?
BMW is restructuring: Except for the iX, all pure electric models like the i3 and the i8 (which was more of a plug-in with range extender) are being removed from the lineup. Instead, the i4, i7, and iX1 are coming in – electric derivatives of the same-named internal combustion series. The i5 and i3 (then as a sedan based on the next 3 Series) have also been announced, with the iX3, iX4, iX5, iX6, and iX7 expected to follow later. Thus, BMW maintains its program as usual and, according to the latest information, will even develop an entirely new generation of internal combustion engines. This clearly distinguishes it from most competitors.
