BMW i5 Touring: Future as a Shooting Brake!
A sketch was shown – it reveals the real proportions of the new i5 Touring. However, it will only be released in February, and series production will not start until mid-2024. But we got an early look and peeked into the trunk.
And we found: Stylish and spacious – we estimate that the deep cargo area can hold at least 550 to well over 1550 liters and it is supposed to be the same size in all models: Because even in the plug-in, BMW split the battery into two parts in the floor!
The Touring also comes as an M5
Engine-wise, BMW offers the full range here as well, from the 520d and 520i to plug-ins to the i5 as 40i and M60, and yes, the M5 (as a plug-in with a V8 similar to the one installed in the XM) also comes as a Touring! The drag coefficient and range will be slightly lower than the sedans due to design, but there were no final numbers yet.
Key markets once again include Europe (Scandinavia, Germany and the UK), possibly South Korea, and also, the USA reports renewed mild interest in power wagons. With its debut in 2024, it is expected to be the first electric large series station wagon in the upper mid-range segment.
What does it mean?
BMW is also bringing the Touring in all powertrains. Makes perfect sense – now all you need is the budget for it. With some equipment, it will be hard to find one for under 60,000 euros.
