BMU supports mobile service with electric vehicles

Soon, a part of the outpatient service of the German Evangelical Women's Association Bavaria will be on the road electrically. A subsidy for four electric cars has been approved for the House for Mother and Child of the state association in the Fürth area, enabling DEF Bavaria to electrify its entire fleet. The House for Mother and Child supports families, pregnant women, and single women with mental illnesses.

“In Fürth, the outpatient service of DEF Bavaria will soon be rolling electrically from door to door. Quieter vehicles with fewer emissions protect the climate, are good for the environment, and improve the quality of life locally. The support of the BMU is intended to make it easier for the German Evangelical Women's Association in Bavaria to switch to battery-electric drives. With many short trips, outpatient services are optimal for the use of electric vehicles. In combination with the environmental bonus, we can nearly offset the additional cost of a new electric vehicle with the subsidy. If social institutions take action now, it is an opportunity for climate protection as well as the quality of life of the employees and the people they care for," comments Parliamentary State Secretary Florian Pronold.

Since November 2020, social institutions have been able to apply for funding under the "Social & Mobile" program. A total of 200 million euros in funding is available until the end of 2022. Currently, more than 273,000 vehicles are on the road for organizations and companies in the health and social sectors in Germany, of which only a fraction are electrified. Since more than 45,000 of these cars and minibuses are renewed each year, the "Social & Mobile" program offers an opportunity to invest in outpatient services at an early stage. In the long term, the switch pays off. Operating costs are lower than for internal combustion engines, and conventional fuels are becoming increasingly expensive due to CO₂ taxation.

The BMU supports social institutions with other programs. For example, through "Climate Adaptation in Social Institutions," measures to adapt to the consequences of climate change. Both programs are part of the economic and future package adopted by the federal government due to the corona pandemic.
