The automotive supplier and technology group Benteler has announced further investments in the e-mobility sector and plans to expand its plant in Schwandorf, in the Upper Palatinate, by 7,500 m². Battery trays are to be manufactured there for another German car manufacturer. The extension is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2020. Production is expected to begin in mid-2021. This is the second expansion in a very short time, following the company's 50 percent increase in production space in Schwandorf in October 2018. This marked the company's entry into the production of battery trays in Germany.

“We are pleased that another renowned customer is relying on our expertise and that we can therefore expand our plant again. With our lightweight battery trays, we make sustainable electromobility possible for our customers - cost-effectively, quickly, and reliably,” says Helmut Ascher, plant manager at the Schwandorf site.

Aluminum plays a major role in the production of battery trays due to its low weight. The company claims material competence in complex lightweight solutions.

The automotive manufacturer's choice of the supplier was not only due to its lightweight construction expertise. The company also points to its extensive expertise in electromobility. With customized, modular solutions, it supports its customers worldwide in taking advantage of the growing opportunities in electromobility - whether established manufacturers or non-industry start-ups, as the supplier further promotes.
