BEM calls for a focus on electric craftsmanship and specialist skills acceleration
In light of the exploding demands for electrification in electromobility, the heat transition, and the expansion of renewable energy, BEM | Bundesverband eMobilität has advocated for maximum focus on professions in the electrical trade. At the specialized trade fair elektrotechnik, which begins on Wednesday in Dortmund, board member Markus Emmert appealed to politicians and administrators to activate the fast-track for skilled workers and to advance qualification and further training in and for the electrical trade.
“To meet the huge demand for electrification, we not only need new professions and training programs, which takes valuable time. We urgently need to expand job profiles and professional standards that stem partially from another economic era,” explains Emmert, referencing the possibility of opening up regulations as has already been done in the photovoltaic sector.
In the area of charging solutions, for example, it should be possible for every tradesperson to install charging infrastructure and initiate reporting processes. Electricians would then only be needed for grid connection and commissioning, Emmert clarifies.
Reliably closing the supply gap in the charging sector
The need to build charging infrastructure for electromobility remains acute according to BEM. With a state target of 15 million purely electric vehicles on German roads by 2030, the demand (public and private) stands at approximately 18 million charging points. The supply gap in the charging sector must be closed quickly and reliably. As all connection services to the energy grid can only be performed by electrical engineers, the responsible chambers of crafts, chambers of commerce, and educational providers should create opening clauses as soon as possible, the association further demands. And it also sees the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs as having an obligation here.
Earlier this week, leading energy transition companies published an open letter to Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck, proposing among other things the fast-track qualification for PV installers. A key concern is establishing a new training focus on energy management, combining competencies for heat (SHK installer) and electricity (electrician). BEM supports these demands as well as the call for an image campaign for energy transition jobs.
