Bavaria promotes the development of a hydrogen refueling station infrastructure

The funding program will come into effect on February 1, 2022, and will run until December 31, 2023. The goal is to establish a public and internal infrastructure for hydrogen fuel supply in all parts of Bavaria. (Source: LBO)

From the perspective of the Bavarian Bus Operators Association (LBO), the funding program is not sufficient to introduce infrastructure and vehicles across the board. In addition to higher financial involvement from the state, it particularly requires consideration in the form of long-term allocations. (Photo: pixabay)

The Free State of Bavaria is focusing on the comprehensive development of a hydrogen refueling station infrastructure and has launched a funding program that will take effect on February 1, 2022, and run until December 31, 2023. The focus is on infrastructure for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles and coaches as well as special vehicles in logistics.

During a digital presentation of the program, in which State Minister Hubert Aiwanger also participated, the Bavarian Bus Operators Association (LBO) made it clear that from their perspective, the funding program is still insufficient to introduce infrastructure and vehicles nationwide.

Besides higher financial participation from the state, the industry association believes there needs to be consideration in the form of longer-term allocations. Funding will be provided under this program for investments with a one-time grant for

  • the public hydrogen refueling infrastructure for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles and coaches as an aid for publicly accessible refueling infrastructure for zero-emission vehicles,
  • non-public hydrogen refueling infrastructure for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles and coaches,
  • the acquisition of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, coaches, and special vehicles in logistics or the conversion of conventional commercial vehicles, coaches, and special vehicles in logistics to hydrogen operation but exclusively in connection with the funding of non-public refueling infrastructure,
  • the construction of new climate-neutral hydrogen production facilities locally to generate renewable hydrogen based on demand.
