Autonomous Driving: Renault Group Plans Level-4 Shuttle
Renault has developed an electric, robotized, and pre-equipped minibus platform that includes various automation solutions from specialized partners like EasyMile and Milla. In collaboration with WeRide, a specialist in autonomous vehicles, demonstration rides in public transport will be conducted during the tennis tournament Roland-Garros – the French Open. From May 26 to June 9, 2024, from 11 AM to 7 PM each day, the automated shuttle service will transport guests from parking lot P2 at Bois-de-Boulogne to the Roland-Garros stadium. At the end of the games, the same service will take tennis fans to Place de la Porte d'Auteuil or back to parking lot P2.
Objective: L4 Deployments
"We will be able to offer a range of autonomous, low-carbon minibuses that meet the growing demands of different regions before the end of this decade," says Gilles Le Borgne, Chief Technology Officer of Renault Group.
The mid-term objective is the large-scale commercial deployment of vehicles with L4 autonomy. These are vehicles capable of autonomously handling driving situations within a predefined area with remote monitoring, without the need for a driver on board.
Renault partner WeRide has more than 700 autonomous vehicles in operation – including 300 minibuses. The fleet has already covered more than 28 million kilometers in Asia, the Middle East, and North America and plans to expand its activities in Europe soon with the Renault Group.
