Audi launches Artemis series development
The concept phase is over – now it’s time to get real: The "speedboat" Artemis has now been conceptualized so that development of the first series model can concretely begin. Audi CEO Markus Duesmann announced this on March 15, 2021, at the company's virtual Power Day:
“After just over nine months, we have reached an important milestone with Artemis.”
The concept phase for the first Artemis model is complete, so that series development can begin. By the end of 2024, the vehicle is expected to hit the market. Overall, this is not a shortened development time for an automobile, but for Audi, it's a small restart. Especially in terms of digitalization, efficiency, and range, the model is expected to take a major step forward compared to what MEB and the future PPE platform allowed. The Artemis project, named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, was initiated by Duesmann right after he took over as Audi CEO in 2020. On June 1, 2020, Artemis chief Alex Hitzinger, brought over from VW Commercial Vehicles, began the planning and conceptualization in Ingolstadt. The model is expected to have a groundbreaking significance for the entire VW group: Besides the Audi variant, there will also be offshoots from Bentley and Porsche. The experiences and innovations are expected to flow back into the premium electric platform, internally called PPE. All three models will be assembled at VW Commercial Vehicles in Hanover.
What does this mean?
Audi is serious: In extremely rapid time, Duesmann has created a new foundation for future projects that goes far beyond the achievements of MEB and PPE. In the end, the first Artemis model will also go far beyond MEB and PPE. The ideas and innovations are expected to gradually flow back into the company's overall program.
