The Ingolstadt-based Volkswagen subsidiary Audi has announced the largest model offensive in its history with the production of the new "Audi Q6 e-tron" series based on the "Premium Platform Electric (PPE)." "With 500 additional positions for the production of our new fully electric Q6 e-tron, we are showing that our path to electromobility is a job engine. Electrification ensures high employment volume, new jobs, and thus more security at the German locations," said Xavier Ros, Audi AG's Board Member for Human Resources.

Employees Qualified

For the launch of the Q6 e-tron series, Audi has qualified around 8,300 employees from production, technical development, and sales in Ingolstadt over the past 18 months, according to its own statements. Audi recently announced that it invested around 150 million euros in employee training and development in 2022 alone. According to the information, approximately 2,000 employees have also been trained for electrification at Audi Hungaria in Győr, where the electric drive for the Q6 e-tron is manufactured, since 2022.

Realignment of the Production Network

With the Audi Q6 e-tron series, the headquarters in Ingolstadt becomes the first German Audi site with its own battery assembly. "We are actively shaping the structural transformation towards e-mobility. With the battery assembly, we have already created around 300 attractive and future-proof jobs at the Ingolstadt site. At the same time, important expertise is being developed that will be used in the production of fully electric models in all plants in the future. We are using electrification for an extensive realignment of our global production network, and the battery assembly in Ingolstadt is part of it," said Gerd Walker, Member of the Board of Management of Audi AG, responsible for Production and Logistics.

At least one all-electric model per site

With the corporate strategy “Vorsprung 2030,” Audi claims to have made an early decision to phase out combustion engines. Based on this decision, all sites are now being gradually prepared for the production of electric vehicles. By the end of the decade, every Audi site worldwide is expected to manufacture at least one all-electric model.

Audi's production has set ambitious goals for the transformation of its plants under the “Strategy 360factory” and is pursuing a holistic approach in its implementation, according to the automobile manufacturer. Optimal production processes, digitalization as a foundation for efficiency leaps, sustainable and resilient supply chains, a highly flexible production network, as well as clear sustainability goals are some of the strategic fields the production is working on, according to Audi.
