Aral pulse, the e-mobility brand of the oil company Aral, has inaugurated the company's first pure charging park in Germany in the presence of North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister for Environment and Transport, Oliver Krischer, and the Mayor of Mönchengladbach, Felix Heinrichs. The charging park for electric vehicles is the brand's largest facility of this kind in Germany to date and is located in the Mönchengladbach Nordpark business park, in close proximity to the A61. The charging park comprises 14 ultra-fast charging stations with a power output of up to 400 kilowatts. Each charging station offers two charging points, which means a total of 28 charging bays for electric cars. More charging parks are being planned.

PV system supplies energy

Depending on vehicle technology, especially with regard to type, age, and condition of the battery, electric vehicles can charge up to 300 kilometers of range within 10 minutes. A photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the facility, partially meeting the charging park's need for green electricity. The project was realized in a partnership between Aral pulse and the PPG Nordpark, a joint venture of the development company of the city of Mönchengladbach and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The transformer station for connecting the charging park to the grid was supplied by Siemens Smart Infrastructure.

"In 2023, we had the best air quality values in Mönchengladbach since measurements began. At the same time, the number of approved e-charging stations in the city doubled. The shift to lower-emission, electric mobility in Mönchengladbach is in full swing. And today it reaches a new milestone with the commissioning of the new fast-charging park by Aral pulse," enthuses Felix Heinrichs, mayor of the city of Mönchengladbach.

The opening of the charging park is a milestone for the development of Aral pulse in Germany and an important innovation in the 100th anniversary year of Aral, explained Alexander Junge, Aral board member for electromobility. He pointed to over 3,000 charging points at more than 400 locations, making it one of the largest fast-charging providers in Germany.

"We desire suitable political framework conditions and in particular, exemption from building permits for transformers and other ancillary installations of charging infrastructure, as demanded by the federal government in the Master Plan Charging Infrastructure II from the states," appealed Junge.

The provider also points to the ranking of the trade magazine Connect, where it was named the best fast-charging provider in Germany, not least because of the quality of its network. Furthermore, it has been an e-charge partner of ADAC since the beginning of August.

REWE To Go Smart Store with Seating Areas

On the premises of the charging park, there is also a Smart Store under the REWE To Go brand, where you can shop around the clock. The assortment of the 54 square meter store includes many familiar products such as fresh snacks, classic travel supplies, cold and hot drinks. It features a modern lounge area with seating inside and outside, restrooms, and free Wi-Fi. To shop, you scan a cashless payment method like a credit card. Then, you take the products from refrigerators. Thanks to artificial intelligence, supported by cameras and weight sensors, the selected items are automatically detected, and the total is deducted from the previously scanned payment method.

“Today we are celebrating a double premiere. For Aral's first dedicated charging park, we have developed a Smart Store with a lounge area and seating for the first time. Together with mobility, on-the-go consumption is constantly evolving. Therefore, the offerings of this unmanned shop are tailored to the needs of electric car drivers,” explains Patrick Steppe, CEO of Lekkerland, the convenience division of the REWE Group.
